Suzanne Clarke Textiles
About the Artist
Suzanne produces handwoven textiles for the home and the body using natural fibres such as local wool, mohair and alpaca, as well as silk, cotton, hemp and bamboo. Suzanne’s work ranges from one off originals to small runs that are unique due to the variation inherent in the hand spinning and dyeing process.
Her love of fibres began at an early age, learning to knit as a five year-old. Suzanne has a Diploma of Interior Design from The International Academy of Design & Technology, Toronto, and worked in that field for a number of years. She has taken numerous weaving and spinning workshops offered through KHWS and Ontario Handweavers & Spinners. .
The cape shown here came about after studying the shape and lines of a lotus leaf. The veining of the leaf inspired the twill lines, while the overall shape of the cape reflects the leaf shape. The original cape was woven with various naturally dyed green yarns, while this uses yarn blended from red violet to blue violet.
